Still have a Favre problem? Lady Lambeau has answers

Hello OBOD Nation!

I was told there was a nation, but I got no love on my last post. Highly disappointing. Please, someone say hi or something.

Today I’d like to talk to the “fans”. Yes, in quotes. “Fans” are those people who claimed to be Packer fans when Favre was the QB, but immediately jumped shipped when he went to the Jets. You were Favre fans, not Packer fans. I have a sneaking suspicion you want to be back in the club now that Rodgers is lighting things up.

I personally know some of these “fans”. I couldn’t believe it when I realized they were rooting for Favre and the Jets. I was really aghast when they started cheering for the Vikings. The VIKINGS!!?? Everyone knows the Vikings are our #1 enemy.

I had someone, who I will not name, tell me that she didn’t like Rodgers because he wasn’t cute. Last time I checked the QB rating didn’t factor in cuteness. I’ve had arguments with people who thought TT was an idiot for letting Favre go. I’ve had people tell me that Rodgers wouldn’t be our QB for long because he wasn’t that good. Even after the numbers he put up last year people didn’t think he was the real deal.

And now? Now that Favre has completely fallen apart and Rodgers has taken our hobbled team into the playoffs? Now, those “fans” are happily wearing their Green and Gold sweatshirts and cheering for the Pack with gusto. They’re making Favre jokes and telling everyone that Rodgers is an elite QB. They’re acting like they never deserted the Pack.

As someone who never doubted the decision to go with Rodgers and send Favre packing I have this to say to those “fans”: Welcome Back! I’m going to set aside my judgment, anger and ability to hold grudges and welcome you back into the fold. But, please, don’t do anything like that again, I don’t give many second chances.

This Saturday, we all need to cheer loud and proud for our team. We need to let Rodgers know that we support him wholeheartedly, that he is the Quarterback of our future. We need to forget about that Brent guy for a while and enjoy what we have. We are in the playoffs with a team that is without most of its starters. We were picked by many to get to the Superbowl at the very beginning of the season, then written off by most people as our starters filled up the IR.

Rodgers is proving himself. No one can deny that. What he’s done this year should be more than enough to shut his skeptics up. Even if you don’t’ think he’s cute, you have to agree that he can do his job, and do it well. And that’s all we ask.

  • I applaud your magnanimity; you’re a ‘bigger’ person than I. As far as I’m concerned, those ‘fans’ should be forced to live with the consequences of their poor choices as a result of their blind loyalty to ‘4′.

  • Interesting insight, Lady Lambeau :)

  • Adam keeps saying we have a nation, but if we do, it’s like Luxembourg or something.

    Luxembourg works for me, Gene.

BigSnakeMan-You have no idea how hard it is for me to be the bigger person, especially when it comes to this. I still give those fans the side eye. I’m not really sure I trust them.

I stuck with the Packers as soon as Favre bolted from the Jets. I got on the Rodgers train from Day 1 and even got is jersey for Christmas ‘08. I still have a lot of Favre memorabilia, but I took a good amount of it down due to, ahem, the circumstances. Go Pack Go!

Since you seem to be asking for opinions, i’ll say this: the Rodgers love is pretty much the same thing as the Favre love. A significant chunk of Packer fandom thought that Favre was above criticism; now they think that Rodgers can do no wrong. It’s the same attitude, even if the objects of adulation are different.

I have to disagree on one thing: I think the Bears are our number one enemy. Maybe it’s because I live in Chicago, but I utterly despise the Bears. I try to be respectable and be lighthearted about bantering with Bears fans in bars (and I confess to a certain amount of Bear-baiting), but every so often somebody will try to start something just because I’ve got my hat on.
    Ugh. HATE the Bears.

  • I adored Favre, and the whole transition was hard. However, I was a Packer fan foremost, and as soon as he went to the Vikings that was it for me.

Cute or not cute, I could care less. But I think Rodgers eyes’ are adorable.

I think our Nation is like the North/South after the Civil War (the War of Northern Aggression for our Southern Cheeseheads). We are divided and not quite sure how to handle those ardent Favrists, especially now that they are jumping back on the Rogers-driven Cheese Wagon (instead of carpetbaggers we have 4-baggers, but I digress…)

One moral to this story is we need to not get so enraptured with our Team and its players that we stop holding them accountable for their actions and their words; sometime MM and TT had the guts to do with Favre. Websites like this are good for that, so keep it up!

    Don’t care if Rodgers is cute, but I know 31 for 36, 366 yds, 3 TD’s and a big-ass WIN sure is!

  • First of all, Congrats on yesterday’s performance!

Second, I understand loving a player so much that you want to wish them well on their new team. Now, that being said let me explain I am a Chargers fan and I am talking about LT going to The Jets. If LT went to the Raiders (our equivalent of your Vikings) I would vomit and die.

It’s still even hard for me to wish him well with The Jets because that smack talking team just isn’t the right fit for LT, but I do. I’d like to see him get the ring he deserves.

All that said, LT is nowhere on the same playing field as Favre. Favre can eat a wiener. LT is an upstanding man, so really all this I am saying has nothing to do with your post.

Now that I have written my own blog post in the comments I will log off and wish you Packers well.

  • You’re far nicer than me.

I loathe a fair-weather fan, or a fair-quarterback fan, if you will. (Forgive me, but I’m going to relate this to baseball.)

As any good Cubs fan knows, you take the cards you’re dealt. You go to the games, you scream at your team on TV and you love them unconditionally, despite their incessant insistance on sucking.

If they get a decent pitcher, you thank the gods of baseball and tell other fans how “they might have a shot in hell this year.”

If, in a poor business move, one of the best utility players gets traded for a soft-handed, entitled princess of a left-fielder, you bitch about him constantly and wait for him to either get his shit together or get traded once more.

You do NOT move on to the Red Sox, claiming you loved them all along because your grandpa drove through Boston that one time in ‘72.

I commend you, Lady Lambeau, on your open heart and welcoming embrace.

But if it happens again, I think someone needs to get cut.
