Breaking down Packers vs. Vikings (aka, Round Two)

Are you ready for round two?

I know I am.

There have been plenty of titles for Sunday’s contest between the Green Bay Packers (4-2) and Minnesota Vikings (6-1), set for 3:15 p.m. Lambeau Time at, well, Lambeau Field.

I’ve pretty much stuck with “Round Two” because, to me, it most encapsulates everything this game is.

It’s another shot [...]

The conflict of Ted Thompson

AN ADDENDUM: Another good Favre/Thompson piece by former Packers capologist Andrew Brandt, who consistently delivers unique and compelling insight on the Packers over at NationalFootballPost.com. Brandt’s story discusses many of the issues we’re talking about below.

Gene here. I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit since I read this long ESPN feature on Ted Thompson yesterday. Pretty good [...]

Gettin' you ready for week eight

Well, we’re now roughly 64 hours away from the re-match and I’m still able to form coherent sentences.

Frankly, that’s better than I thought I would be at this point.

So, before my anger really sets in and I begin speaking in tongues, let’s tee this thing up as we at OBOD get you ready for week [...]

Breaking down '96 Packers vs. '09 Vikings

Normally on Wednesdays, this space is reserved for a mid-week report. We’d give you injury updates and a few other interesting notes about what’s going on with the Green Bay Packers as they prepare for their next game.

This week, however, I’ve decided to go with something a little different. And it’s all Judas’ fault, so [...]

Booing Judas? It's not a right – it's a responsibility

After a fairly lengthy hiatus – mainly due to the bye week and me being sick – we’re back with our weekly lighthearted post.

This week, we’ll once again be discussing the man we all love to hate – Judas.

Before the first Packers-Vikings game, I wrote a post regarding nicknames you could use if you didn’t [...]

A Monday trip to the question department

As Oasis once said, questions are the answers you might need.

I’ve always loved that line and it seems to hold particular importance today. There are a few fairly major question marks surrounding the Green Bay Packers as they get ready for round two with Judas and the Queens on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

(On that note, [...]

Regular season game six vs. Cleveland: Comfortable win breeds confidence in defense

In my preview for Sunday’s contest with the Cleveland Browns, I said the Green Bay Packers had to not only win, but win big in order to gain some real confidence moving forward.

No problem there, huh?

In cruising to a dominant 31-3 road win against the hapless Browns, which improves their record to 4-2 on the [...]

Breaking down Packers vs. Browns

This one’s for you, Corey Williams.

Oh, you don’t remember Corey Williams? It’s okay – I can see why. He’s no one special.

Williams, in case you’ve forgotten, was a pretty good young d-tackle for the Packers awhile back. In 2006 and 2007 combined, he had 14 sacks.

The team, after being unable to reach agreement on a [...]

Gettin' you ready for week seven

This is an exciting time of the season if you’re an NFL fan.

With six weeks of the 2009 campaign already in the books, contenders, semi-contenders, pretenders, frauds and the St. Louis Rams are all starting to emerge.

We’re starting to get a feel for how the season could play out. In other words, it’s a great [...]

Strange but true: Green a Packer once again

It was late on Sept. 13 – or had it turned to Sept. 14? – when my friend Nathan and I noticed one Ahman Green signing autographs for fans from the front seat of his Hummer outside of Lambeau Field.

Green must have been there as a guest for the Bears game, we figured. It was [...]
