Just wanted to direct you to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s excellent package on how the 3-4 defense will differ from the 4-3 (if you haven’t figured it out yet, we’re big fans of the way the J-S covers the Packers).
Here’s the link.
My take: This package illustrates exactly what we’ve been worrying about for a while–how hard it’s going to be for the Packers to make a switch to the 3-4 in the span of a few months. Adding B.J. Raji and Clay Matthews helps, but the defense will fly or fall based on how the Packers’ mainstays — Ryan Pickett and Cullen Jenkins, A.J. Hawk and Nick Barnett, Charles Woodson and Al Harris, Nick Collins and Atari Bigby — adjust to performing different tasks than they’re used to.
It also points out justĀ how important the next few months are to the Packers’ success this year. They’ve got to do a lot of work in a short amount of time, so well-informed fans should be paying more attention to the reports out of OTAs and minicamps than usual. We’ll do our best to keep you up-to-date. Enjoy your holiday.
